Cold & Flu season is upon us.

In addition to the common cold and influenza, the CDC and Virgina Department of Health are closely monitoring the novel coronavirus.  For a detailed link, please check out this page:

Encourage and demonstrate good hand washing with your child (at least 20 seconds - I teach them to sing ABC's).

Please do not medicate a child with a fever in the morning and send to school.  If your child has a fever of 100 or more, keep home until fever free for a minimum of 24 hours without using fever reducing medicines.

Remind your child to cover his or her cough.

Keep hands away from eyes, nose and mouth.

If you receive a doctor's note for absence(s), please send in when your child returns, or be sure to send a parent note upon your child's return.

Welcome To the School Nurse Web page:
I am a married mother of 2 teenage girls and have been the school nurse at Big Island Elementary for 8 years.  Promoting your child's health, safety and wellness is my top priority.  If your child has health conditions (including, but not limited to) such as:  asthma, life threatening allergies, seizures, diabetes, heart conditions, cystic fibrosis, cancer, please contact the clinic at your earliest convenience.

CAREDOX is how the clinic will communicate with parents/legal guardians regarding clinic visits and health concerns.  Please make sure you have activated your child's CAREDOX account.  Visit to complete the registration.

MEDICATIONS:  All medications, including cough drops, require a parent to bring them in.  If it is an over-the-counter medication and the clinic can administer the medicine as directed on the packaging, a physician's written order is NOT needed.  If it is a prescription, the physician needs to sign the written order.  ALL medications require a parental signature.

All forms needed for medical purposes can be downloaded from "Medical Forms" in the column to the left.  Feel free to download to take to your doctor at any time.
