Update 5/20/20: Please continue using the Resource tab above to maximize student learning at home. I have updated the Reading Websites tab with lots of great sites, including 20 minute daily read alouds! Also, K-3 parents may access Sight Words under the Sight Words tab, which also includes printable flashcards if you have access to a printer. Miss all of you and above all, stay safe and healthy. See you soon.
Welcome to the Reading Center! I have spent the last 23 years in the educational field as an elementary classroom teacher, remediation teacher, home bound teacher, and reading specialist. Ironically, I began my educational journey at Big Island Elementary as a 6th and 5th grade teacher. After working part time as a remediation teacher and homebound teacher while "staying at home" with my three children for 11 years, I was very eager to get back into the classroom full time. After two years at the University of Lynchburg, I earned my master's degree in Reading. This is my fifth year as a Reading Specialist. I enjoy assessing the reading strengths and needs of my students, providing that information to classroom teachers, parents, and specialized personnel, in order to effectively grow successful, lifelong readers.
I am a wife and mother to three teenage children and enjoy time with my family hiking, cooking, and relaxing with a good book.
