Since 2011, Big Island Elementary School has been a recipient of a 21st Century Grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia to establish an ongoing afterschool enrichment program for its students. We are extremely excited to announce that BIES has been awarded another Grant Cycle that should run through the summer of 2017!
Summer CLC's was a success this year and students had a great time participating in Sedalia Center's Cultural Arts Camp in June that focused on Cowboys this year.
This week STEM Camp for Grades K-5 is going on. Students are learning to be Engineers in all kinds of ways. Next week, July 18-21, will be Soldiers and STEM Camp Monday through Thursday from 9:00 - 3:30. The National D-Day Memorial will be partnering with us on that and the collaboration between their staff and ours has elicited some awesome activities!
The week of July 25th- 29th will be our Summer Horse Academy! Our students will be traveling to RJ Pleasure Horses to learn about the care of horses and beginner riding lessons. We have 2 spots left for Grades 3-5 if anyone is interested.
